With each new season we can turn over a new leaf. This idea couldn’t be more relevant to today’s Spill It! story featuring our chat with the inspiring Kelsie Hayes of POPUP FLORIST. To celebrate the beginning of spring, we met Kelsie at POPUP FLORIST’s adorable Lower East Side shop, and she gave us a tour of the flower-adorned space. Kelsie later joined us back at our studio to chat flowers, fashion, and the trials and tribulations of running a small business in NYC. Spill It! Introductions, please! My name is Kelsie; I'm the owner and founder of POPUP FLORIST - a plant and design company based in NYC.

Spill It! Have fashion and flowers always been your “&” essentials? I have been passionate about fashion for as long as I can remember and while I've always enjoyed florals, in the past few years since discovering that I can use them as a medium, my passion has grown.

Spill It! Do you remember the first flower you ever saw? The first flower I remember is the Black-eyed Susan. I'm from Maryland, and they are the state flower, so they are everywhere!

Spill It! What role do accessories play in your wardrobe and how do they help streamline your busy life? I always wear a big bag for my computer and a cross-body for essentials that I need (money, clippers, etc.) so I'm basically a bag lady at all times! I love wearing rings, but since I use my hands a lot, I stick with bracelets to accessorize.

Spill It! What’s one thing about POPUP FLORIST that people don’t normally talk or know about? We are super DIY with everything we do - including our googly eyes which we are in the process of making 10,000 more for an order. Any time a project comes to us we try every way humanly possible to do it ourselves!

Spill It! What’s more your style: Succulents or Blooms? Blooms for sure!

Spill It! Can we look inside your bag right now? TBH, probably flower remnants and stems, haha!
