Spill It! Introductions, please!

Hi, My name is Shallon Hunter Manion, I am currently the Fashion Director at Tuckernuck. I grew up in Austin, Texas, went to Ole Miss, and lived and worked in NY for most of my twenties , before moving to DC ( my husband is from here) . I was introduced to the Tuckernuck founders quickly after my move, and have been with Tuckernuck the past 6 years!

How would you describe your personal style and who/what has influenced it the most?

Classic, Feminine, Cool, and Curated. I am always inspired by my travels. I was just in Paris doing a photoshoot with my brother, so I have been really inspired by Parisian style lately. I also grew up in Austin, and have spent a lot of time on the west coast, so my style tends to be a little boho, especially in the Summer months.

Your career path is so amazing! You’ve been a stylist, event producer, publicist, and now you’re Tuckernuck’s Fashion Director and Director of Production. What led you to pursue a career in fashion and what’s your favorite part of your job?

My mom worked in fashion growing up. We lived in Austin, but she would go to NY every month for a week, and I would go with her a lot. Styling always came natural to me after being around it. In High School, I did a program at Parsons, and always knew I wanted to move back to NY and pursue a career in Fashion. I spent almost all my Summers in college interning in NY, and studied abroad in Paris my Junior Year.  My favorite part of my job is collaborating with so many talented people, and I love that everyday is different.

How do you find your inspiration for Tuckernuck collections?

Our founders, and designers come up with all our amazing collections. I love collaborating with them, and our creative director on incredible photo shoots to really showcase the pieces. I am also always traveling, browsing magazines/ websites, observing street style, and scrolling through instagram to get inspired on styling it all.

What are a few of the best styling tips you’ve learned over the years?

  1. Buy what works for your body type. My mom has always said this. Trends are great, but if it doesn’t flatter you- then pass.
  2. The majority of people can not wear something right off the rack. Taking your pieces to a really great seamstress can make all the difference
  3. Invest in your fundamentals/ basics, these are the things you grab everyday, and should make up a big part of your wardrobe.

What’s your favorite bag in the Neely & Chloe x Tuckernuck Collection and why?

I love the Green Gingham Fanny Pack. I wear it to walk my dog, to style, and when my husband and I play tennis. It fits all my necessities and is fun styled with my Tuckernuck tennis whites.

Spill it! Can we take a look inside your bag right now?

Right now my Gingham Fanny Pack is filled with my keys, a few dog treats, my phone, and the Victoria Beckham Posh lip gloss in ice- my favorite lip gloss at the moment, it keeps my lips so hydrated.
