The Lady Bag was one of the products I was personally most nervous about bringing into the mix. Most of the silhouettes from our first season were very basic – like our tote and wallet – but The Lady Bag was one of our more fashion-focused styles which added a whole other layer of things to consider during our design process. Looking back, what was most exciting was that with its success we have been able to lean further into our more adventurous styles. As a result, we’ve made it a point to bring it back in new sizes and fabrications.
When we first conceived the idea for this style, we were very focused on designing a top handle bag with some structure – another one of those attempts to bring aesthetic elements of the past back to life. We pulled tons of tears of inspiration images, magazine clippings, and more together and jump-started the design process.
We probably went through three or four proto samples before we landed on the final details which included a top handle large enough to carry over your arm and a removable shoulder strap for usability. We launched a “mini” version in our bright summer colors, which was very fun with this bold color palette. Then we introduced two new fabrications this past fall and holiday (in calf hair and velvet). We can hardly wait to share the next iteration this upcoming spring and summer!
But since we’re still dealing with winter’s wrath, I’ll be the first to say that this bag is the PERFECT (and chic) finishing touch for a brisk, busy day around town. It can easily be worn with jeans, a pair of heels, and a blazer. Personally, I am a sucker for incorporating a good pair of wide-leg pants into my everyday look. I love to wear them casually with a sweater for work and switch to a blouse for a night out for drinks at Harvey at The Williamsburg Hotel – which is where Chloe and I spent some time recently while toasting to what’s to come for the season ahead. Because let’s face it, what good is carrying something like The Lady Bag if you don’t have your best girlfriends by your side?
Cheers to the ladies who inspire our lives every day! – Neely Burch
